Ardnamurchan 5 yo 2019 (Cask 2080) Peated PX
Situated in the most westerly point of mainland Britain, Ardnamurchan is a Scotch whisky distillery that embraces environmental conservation holistically, all the while producing a deeply traditional style of Scotch. This peated expression spent the entirety of its maturation in a single first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry cask, a powerful exhibition of the distillery’s capabilities. Bottled at the natural cask strength without added colouring or chill filtration. Just 313 bottles were yielded in this single cask expression.
Our team had the pleasure of spending two days up at Ardnamurchan with sales director Connal Mackenzie, we ventured deep into the distillery's inner workings, tasting our way through a myriad of different cask types—any one of which would have been a privilege to put our name to. Towards the end of day two we came across cask 2080, upon sampling we were all drawn to a halt with its character. You know what they say—the rest is history.
“Oolong tea and lit charcoal brick. Damp mulch and thick autumnal air with wisps of sea spray and blackberry jam. Overripe plums and black pepper precede cinnamon and dark chilli chocolate dipped into espresso. Leather and liquorice draw long into the finish.”
