Soave Calvarino Pieropan 2022

An outstanding Soave made from organically grown grapes, that remains on yeast lees in glass-lined cement tanks for a year, adding complexity and depth to the final wine. Flavours of green apple, almond, rosemary and oyster shell are well held on this textured fine Italian wine.
 
The first single-vineyard wine produced in Soave in 1971, Calvarino is the name of a steep vineyard (200 to 300 m asl) in the Classico Soave area. The 30-60 year old Garganega and Trebbiano vines are grown organically on basalt-based soils.
 
"Crystalline and focused, this vintage of Calvarino magnifies the distinct aromas of Soave's volcanic soil with hints of smoke and flint. As the wine opens, aromas of lemon oil, white peach, jasmine and green apple skin lift from the glass. The wine is 3D in the glass with vertical and horizontal flavors filling the mouth while fresh acidity lifts the palate. Flavors mirror the palate with the addition of a hint of marzipan finishing with an energy that hints towards the ageability of the wine"
